Little haven of peace

Great – yummy food at a restaurant, try the amaranth crusted shrimp. Staff friendly and kind, don’t all speak English. Our group of 19 there for a week-long yoga retreat was well served.

Great to swim off the dock or from our lakeside cabana. Cabanas clean and comfortable. A bit noisy at night from truck traffic on a nearby road. The hammocks dotted around were a nice touch, as is the 20-minute jungle walk. The gates & security made us gringos feel a bit safer. The boat trip right from the dock to view deep cenotes, bird island, and pirates channel was excellent value for the money.

A 10-minute taxi ride to Bacalar town for shopping and to tour the fort & museum. Staff is nice with their cozumel fly fishing recommendations. The massage I got in the spa was great and fun to look down through a window in the floor at fish swimming by. A perfect spot for a “return to paradise.” Wifi in restaurant spotty but worked well in reception. The small on-site store was lovely. Be sure to tip cleaners, drivers, servers well.

Beautifully situated at the Bacalar lake. The restaurant is overlooking the lake as are some of the rooms. Rooms are very comfortable and spacious. They have a pool as well, but you can better swim in the lake.

They have a pier in the water with easy access, swings in the water, and the rent of kayaks and paddle boards are included.

What a beautiful resort to rest and recharge. The website and pics just don’t do it justice. The accommodation is excellent (we stayed in a lakefront cottage (Nutria, #34) and LOVED it), the food and drinks are reasonably priced (and the delicious breakfast is included), and the service is top notch (everyone is so very very friendly).

The resort is spotless and from hanging on the dock to lounging by the pool – the kids and we had a blast. The sunrises are some of the best we have ever seen! The kids also loved feeding the fish from the dock in the morning and at night (lots and lots of catfish, tarpon and other assorted fish).

Last November we visited Rancho Encantado and got a room with ‘Lakeview’ We stayed in room 8 and loved it. The rooms and very large and had a balcony with a hammock. The hotel is so beautiful that this was the perfect place for us to get engaged, so we did. The restaurant offers excellent food for a more than reasonable price. The cocktails are high, and the service is excellent. You can borrow free kayaks. It really is a beautiful place where we would stay again.
